Interview 68
– Alexander, in your previous interview you answered a very difficult question — why dying people see light at the end of the tunnel. You said that about 5-6% of patients who were on the verge of dying or survived cardiac arrest, they described their return to life as moving along the tunnel with light at the end of it, they also described bright pictures of another world, encounters with dead relatives and friends, some of them met angels, were in the Garden of Eden. Some of them after having returned to life, discovered portentous abilities.
Dr. Eben Alexander, a neurosurgeon, recently published his book A Neurosurgeon’s Journey into the Afterlife, where he described what he saw when he was in clinical death. Before that day Dr. Eben Alexander had been a Prof. at Harvard University Medical School and was considered an outstanding surgeon and, as he said, never believed in the other world and G-d. But everything changed in 2009 when he slipped into a coma and traveled to the Garden of Eden. Though his cerebral cortex shut down, the rest of the brain kept functioning.
In his book he writes that he journeyed to another, larger dimension of the Universe, which was a different new world where death is not the end of consciousness but rather a chapter in a vast, and incalculably positive, journey. When describing the different world he says that at first he floated high in the clouds, but soon he saw transparent shimmering beings arced across the sky, leaving long, streamer like lines behind them.
Those beings were producing amazing sounds, like a glorious chant. They were neither birds, nor angels. For most of his journey in that mystic Universe, he was joined by a beautiful young woman, and he remember what she looked like in complete detail. She had high cheekbones and deep-blue eyes. Golden brown tresses framed her lovely face. The woman was wearing a light powder blue, and pastel orange-peach dress. She spoke to him without using any words (telepathy). «You are loved and cherished dearly on your planet. We will show you many things here, but eventually, you will go back». Soon Eben Alexander came to himself. The book ends with the words, «I’m still a doctor, and still a man of science every bit as much as I was before I had my experience. But on a deep level I’m very different from the person I was before, because I’ve caught a glimpse of this emerging picture of reality».
